4: He Speaks of Salvation to and through His Firstborn

If you’ve been following this series, you know that the firstborn office is a big deal. It’s permanent. It’s legally protected. It carries the weight of the family’s inheritance and future.
But there’s a problem: the firstborn keeps failing.
Cain failed. Israel failed. Every firstborn who ever lived — except one — failed.
So how does God save the family? Through the firstborn.

Salvation to the Firstborn
The first step is salvation to the firstborn. That’s what Passover was all about.
On the night of the exodus, the firstborn of every household in Egypt was destined to die — unless the blood of the Lamb was applied to the doorposts.
The blood protected the firstborn. It saved them from death. It redeemed them from judgment.
This is a picture of salvation to the firstborn: the firstborn is saved by the blood.
Salvation Through the Firstborn
But there’s a second step: salvation through the firstborn.
Jesus came as the true Firstborn. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). His blood doesn’t just protect the firstborn — it redeems everyone.
Through His death, salvation flows to all who believe. He is the firstborn who succeeds where all others failed.
The Passover Coin
Israel and Jesus are two sides of the same firstborn coin.
Israel is saved by the blood at Passover.
Jesus saves others through His blood at the cross.
The invitation extends to all nations: “Whosoever will” must apply the blood of the Lamb spiritually on the doorposts of their hearts to be “passed over.”
This is the heart of the Gospel. And it’s hidden in plain sight in the story of the firstborn.
The Firstborn Replacement
Cain failed. Israel failed. Every firstborn failed — except one.
Jesus came as the firstborn replacement. He is the Last Adam — the one who came to restore everything that was lost at the fall.
Through Him, the eternal inheritance is secured. Through Him, divine mercy is extended to all sinners — not just the firstborn.
This is the story of salvation to and through the firstborn. And it’s the story of your redemption.
Reader’s Clue: If Passover was about saving the firstborn, and the cross was about saving everyone — what does that tell you about God’s plan for the family? And where do you fit in that story?
